The purpose of the CPO Academy is to provide newly advanced Chief Petty Officers the leadership, communication, and administrative skills they need to do their jobs effectively.
In accordance with the Coast Guard Personnel Manual, Chapter 5-C, all Coast Guard E-7s advanced on or after 01 JAN 1999 must complete either the CPO Academy or another approved DoD senior enlisted academy to be eligible to advance to E-8.
Active Duty personnel can only apply for Active Duty classes. Reservists can apply for either Active Duty or Reserve classes. Reservists please see Resident Training for CG Reservists.

If you are selected and OCONUS and do not have a CG Global e-mail address, you must list and alternate way to be contacted in the comments section of the ETR.
Members must submit an electronic training request via the Direct Access or a Short-Term Training Request (CG-5223), via their Commanding Officer/Officer-In-Charge to Commandant (CG-133). The course code for the Chief Petty Officer Academy Active Duty class is 230442. The course code for the Reserve class is 500884. U.S. Air Force Master Sergeants who have been identified as either a primary or alternate are eligible to apply for the Chief Petty Officer Academy.
