Commander Totte assumed his current duties as Commanding Officer, Pacific Tactical Law Enforcement Team in July 2010.  In this role, he is responsible for training, equipping, and deploying eight law enforcement detachments (LEDETs) to conduct non-compliant boarding and maritime interdiction operations in support of national counter-drug and counter-piracy missions. 

Commander Jonathan W. Totte, a native of Guilford, Connecticut, was commissioned in 1991 following graduation from the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.  His first assignment was in CGC MELLON (WHEC 717), homeported in Seattle, Washington, where his duties included Deck Watch Officer, Combat Information Center Officer and Boarding Officer.  

In 1993, Commander Totte was assigned as Executive Officer in CGC MONHEGAN (WPB 1305), homeported in Key West, Florida.  During this tour, he participated in Operation Able Manner, Operation Able Vigil and Operation Restore Democracy.  Commander Totte was assigned to Coast Guard Activities New York in 1995 where he served as a Command Duty Officer, Command Center/Rescue Coordination Center Controller, New York, New York.

In 1998, Commander Totte was assigned as Commanding Officer in CGC VASHON (WPB 1308), homeported in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  CGC VASHON was primarily responsible for conducting law enforcement operations, including counter-narcotics and anti-human smuggling in the Eastern Caribbean. Commander Totte next served three years at Coast Guard Headquarters, Washington, D.C. in the Office of Cutter Forces where he was the Program Manager for cutter training, the Coast Guard ordnance program and led the development of the Coast Guard’s non-lethal weapons program.

Commander Totte transferred to Coast Guard Group Miami in 2003 to assume the responsibility of Group Operations Officer in Miami, Florida.  During this assignment, Commander Totte supervised the operations of eight Coast Guard cutters and four small boat stations.  In addition, Commander Totte oversaw the Group Miami Command Center that executed a myriad of Law Enforcement, Ports Waterways and Coastal Security, and Search and Rescue operations.

Following this tour of duty, Commander Totte earned a Masters degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College in 2007.

Commander Totte’s next assignment was as Deputy Chief, Office of Counterterrorism and Defense Operations, Coast Guard Headquarters, Washington, D.C.  In this role, he was responsible for policy oversight of the national defense and homeland security missions, expeditionary naval coastal warfare, anti-terrorism force protection through the port security unit (PSU), and Marine Safety and Security Team programs, coordinator of Coast Guard/Navy/Marine Corps/National Guard Bureau staff talks, Joint Operations war gaming for the Coast Guard’s military readiness requirements. 

Commander Totte is married to Krista (Cole) Totte of Cincinnati, Ohio.  They have a son named Ryan.
