In July of 2003, the Coast Guard formed the Information Systems Technician rate from the former Telecommunications Specialist rating and the Telecommunication Technician rating, and also merged the Fire Control Technician rating and the Electronics Technician rating into the Electronics Technician rating.
The Electronics Division repairs, calibrates, and performs maintenance on Legend Class cutter electronics suites. The shop is divided into two sections; Electronics and Information Systems and is led by the Electronics Maintenance Officer or (EMO). The Electronics section repairs and supports the surface and navigation radars, air search radars, radio communication equipment, including HF, VHF, and UHF radios, as well as satellite communications, cryptologic equipment, Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), EOIR equipment, Electronic Surveillance Measures (ESM) equipment, and TACAN equipment.
The Information Systems section is responsible for maintenance and operation of the many local and wide area networks (LAN)and (WAN) onboard the ship, as well as the Standard Workstation IIIs, integrated internal and external communications ie… plain old telephone system (POTS) and voice over internet protocol (VOIP) telephone systems necessary for the cutter to accomplish her missions.
