CAPT AlDante Vinciguerra USCG
Commanding Officer, USCGC Sherman (WHEC-720)
Captain Vinciguerra assumed command of CGC SHERMAN in February 2015 following the decommissioning of CGC RUSH (WHEC 723) where had also served as commanding officer. Prior to CGC RUSH, Captain Vinciguerra taught at the Leadership Development Center (LDC) in New London, CT where he has served as the Command and Operations School Chief for four years. His duties included instructing all afloat commanding officers and executive officers prior to their returning to sea. Before arriving at the LDC in September of 2010, he served as Commanding Officer of USCGC VALIANT (WMEC 621) homeported in Miami Beach, Florida from May 2008 to August 2010. This tour included multiple counternarcotics interdictions, stemming the flow of illegal immigration, and initial response to the earthquake that devastated Haiti in 2010. Prior to taking command of VALIANT, he served as the Chief of Personnel at Integrated Support Command (ISC) Miami from August 2005 to May 2008. Previous afloat assignments included serving as Executive Officer on board USCGC DAUNTLESS (WMEC-624) homeported in Galveston, Texas, a tour as Operation Officer/Tactical Action Officer on board USCGC MIDGETT (WHEC-726) out of Seattle, Washington, and Deck Watch Officer/First Lieutenant on board USCGC RESOLUTE (WMEC-620) when the vessel was homeported in Astoria, Oregon. CAPT Vinciguerra also had an additional operational afloat tour as Officer in Charge (OIC) of Law Enforcement Detachment (LEDET) 8-H in Galveston, Texas, under the now decommissioned Tactical Law Enforcement Team Gulf. As OIC, he conducted primarily counter narcotics operations locally in Texas and in the Caribbean Sea on both United States Navy and British warships.
Aside from his instructor and personnel assignments at the LDC and ISC Miami respectively, CAPT Vinciguerra’s shore duties included a tour in New Orleans, LA as a Search and Rescue Controller for the Eighth Coast Guard District and graduate school at the Naval War College in Newport, RI.
CAPT Vinciguerra was raised in Penns Grove, New Jersey, and graduated
from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1992 with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Management. In
2003, he earned a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic
Studies from the
His military awards include three Meritorious Service Medals, five Coast Guard Commendation Medals, a Navy Achievement Medal, the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation, six Unit Commendations, three Meritorious Unit Commendations, and various other unit and special operations awards.
Both CAPT Vinciguerra’s parents served in the Navy during the Korean War.
