EM1 David Whittington
Extensive hours and complex maintenance are commonplace for a polar icebreaker. At the heart of our electrical evolutions and a component vital to engineering success, is Electrician’s Mate First Class (EM1) David Whittington. Petty Officer Whittington’s expert knowledge of the POLAR SEA’s electrical systems has been essential to correcting problems with critical operational equipment. Prior to getting underway for AWF09, EM1 Whittington’s leadership and planning reduced load banking, the time intensive process of testing vital propulsion equipment, by 13 days. This set a new standard and increased efficiency.
EM1 is part of a team of Electrician Mates that continually monitor, troubleshoot, and repair POLAR SEA’s electrical systems. EM1 Whittington is a leader in the engineering department, actively training new watchstanders in an upbeat and comprehensive manner and willingly taking time to improve his shipmates skills. Petty Officer Whittington is a respected mentor and leader in POLAR SEA.
