BM3 Kyle Abel
As a member of the Navigation Division on board POLAR SEA, Boatswain mate 3rd Class (BM3) Abel plays an integral role in training new Junior Officer’s of the Deck (JOODs) as well as ensuring the safe navigation of POLAR SEA. In addition to conducting training while on watch, BM3 Abel also willingly spent his off time at the beginning of the AWF09 deployment to help train and qualify helm and lookouts. Petty Officer Abel’s upbeat personality and vitality make even the most mundane bridge watches entertaining. He successfully balances training with maintaining a vigilant watch.
BM3 Abel is dedicated to the improvement of POLAR SEA and his shipmates. While inport prior to AWF09, he was instrumental in re-surfacing the non-skid on approximately 2000 square feet of deck during the TODD shipyard period. This also included painting the flying bridge, 03 deck railings and bridge bulkheads. Furthermore, when a fellow member of his division was injured, he willingly put in extra time to ensure the project was finished prior to deployment. BM3 Abel can be counted on to help out shipmates on and off duty and is an exemplary Coast Guardsman.
