MK3 Justin Delesandri
Well maintained small boats and their highly trained crews are critical to POLAR SEA missions. As the only qualified small boat engineer, Machinery Technician 3rd Class (MK3) Justin Delesandri is a critical component to all small boat evolutions. In this position, MK3 Delesandri is a member of the small boat crew and ensures boat checks are completed daily by 0800. Furthermore, he acts as the lead small boat mechanic. During this deployment, the propellers on one of the small boats were damaged during a passenger transfer. Upon receipt of the four new propellers, MK3 Delesandri immediately changed them out within hours to ensure the boat was mission capable.
In addition to his responsibilities as small boat engineer, MK3 Delesandri is the lead oily water separator (OWS) operator and incinerator technician. This patrol alone, he has been responsible for getting rid of over 10,000 gallons of waste oil, water, and bilge waste from the various oily water tanks and bilges. When it comes to getting rid of trash and oily waste underway, MK3 Delesandri keeps the process running smoothly. As a member of the Auxiliary Division, MK3 Delesandri is a valuable asset not only because of his extensive knowledge of engineering spaces, but also because of his cheerful and helpful demeanor. Through his positive and motivated attitude about his assignments, no matter how menial they are, MK3 Delesandri is an example for all of his shipmates. When interviewing one of his shipmates as to how they felt about him being a part of their division, they said "MK3 Delesandri? I don't know what I'd do without him..."
