YN2 Monica Campos and OS2 Kimberlie Myers
Have you ever wondered how many flowers are on each side of an Oreo cookie? Or have you ever thought about which country was the first to open a ski-through McDonalds? Two crew members have made it their mission to test the sailors, scientist, and shipriders aboard POLAR SEA on how much they really know.
Yeoman 2nd Class (YN2) Monica Campos and Operations Specialist 2nd Class (OS2) Kimberlie Myers coupled their expertise and liking for trivia to create and host the most popular weekly morale event, Trivia Night. These two active crew members are known for their energy and upbeat personalities, leadership as inport duty section leaders, and are sought after as mentors by many junior personnel. Both are committed to improving morale and health and well being on board POLAR SEA. YN2 Campos and OS2 Myers are tie-down members in addition to their assigned duties, actively contributing to flight operations on a sometimes daily basis.
As a yeoman, YN2 Campos made travel arrangements for 7 Coast Guard personnel, meeting or departing during this cruise. This is logistically challenging in the arctic due to lack of communication options and poor internet connectivity. In addition, she has tracked and processed over 15 awards for personnel this patrol.
OS2 Myers has spent many hours troubleshooting and resolving communication issues that result out of operating at high latitudes. During the first cruise of AWF09, OS2 Myers volunteered her time spending over 20 hours outside of watch to assist the Marine Science Technicians (MSTs) and the scientists with their various projects. OS2 Myers and YN2 Campos are valued shipmates whose motivation exemplifies our core values.
