Seattle
Tuesday morning POLAR SEA moored in Victoria, BC, the final port call for the BEST 2010 Science Deployment. While there, the crew got a chance to explore the city, enjoying sunshine and significantly warmer temperatures than experienced over the last two months. Once there, over 50 friends and family members joined the crew to sail the final leg of the journey.
Early Friday morning, POLAR SEA pulled away from the Victoria pier and transited the remaining distance to Seattle. During the trip, the crew showed off POLAR SEA to our guests who were able to experience a few hours of underway life aboard an icebreaker. Many visitors braved the engine room, made the long trek up to Aloft Conn, ate lunch on one of the messdecks, observed “special sea detail,” or just chatted with the crew.
As we pulled into Seattle, we were grateful for the continued sunshine and happy to be home once more. We thank all of the friends and family for their support and encouragement during the deployment. We look forward to enjoying the spring in Seattle, welcoming new crewmembers, and planning the next journey.
