SN Aaron Ellis
After departing boot camp and being assigned to a cutter, every non-rate spends at least one, though usually more, months in the job of “messcooking” until they choose their rate and depart for school. It is a job that requires stamina for the early mornings and late evenings as members assist the Food Service Specialists, or cooks, aboard POLAR SEA. This week, one individual who just completed messcooking, stands out as the “member in the spotlight.” SN Ellis, an exemplary mess cook for the officer’s mess in March, is a member of the Deck Department. While messcooking, SN Ellis was constantly busy; in between meals, she was often seen manning her billet for flight operations as a valued member of the helicopter firefighting team.
Known as an upbeat member within Deck Force, she is always asking what she can do to help. SN Ellis spurs on her shipmates to do their best, and leads by example. Despite being one of the junior members, having only been aboard POLAR SEA for just over 6 months, SN Ellis has become a “go to” person on Deck Force. She uses her artistic abilities to brighten other people’s days and consistently greets everyone with a smile. She is known as the "Mom" of deck force; crewmembers know that she is willing to listen to problems and give a realistic perspective on issues. Her positive attitude and hard work have led others to work harder and become more effective members of the ship’s crew.
