ME2 Daniel Smith
As a member of the Marine Science Division aboard POLAR SEA, Maritime
Enforcement Specialist 2nd Class (ME2) Smith played a critical role in preparing
the unit for the BEST 2010 science cruise. Preparations required many long
hours, with the Marine Science
Division often working late into the afternoon and on weekends. ME2 Smith was a
crucial asset; replacing the knuckle crane wire, ensuring all science sensors
were calibrated and serviced in time for the science cruise, and acting as a key
liaison in supervising science winch contracts. As the lead petty officer in the
division, ME2 Smith worked effectively in leading, delegating, and communicating
both within the division as well as with other divisions throughout the ship.
ME2 Smith is a hardworking and model Guardian. POLAR SEA will miss his presence
as he transfers this summer to a Marine Safety and Security Team (MSST) in
Virginia.
