OUR LAST PATROL

ACTIVE completed a very successful counter narcotics patrol from November 28, 2009 to February 10, 2010. With the assistance of a HITRON helicopter, we prosecuted at total of four cases, resulting in a combined seizure of one fishing vessel, four go-fast vessels, fourteen suspected smugglers, 3,353 lbs of cocaine worth $217.5 million, two illegal weapons, and $499,980 in bulk cash.

We kicked off the patrol with a quick stop in San Francisco, which required a transit underneath the famous Golden Gate Bridge.

While we were down south, we took some time to enjoy port calls in Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala and Golfito, Costa Rica. One of the major attractions in Guatemala was an active volcano, and some of the crew took advantage of a guided hike to see the lava.

The crew also looked for other ways to keep morale high while away from home and family. Everyone competed in the Inaugural ACTIVE Shipboard Olympics. Events included knot tying, heaving line toss, survival suit races, pushups while wearing a firefighting airpack, running a dewatering pump, and hands free Jello eating.
