
CDR Hollingshead reported to Active after a tour in the Naval Surface Warfare Division at the Pentagon where he represented Coast Guard interests in development of Naval Policies. Prior to that assignment, CDR Hollingshead attended the College of Command and Staff at the Naval War College (Newport, R.I.). CDR Hollingshead's last afloat position was as the plank owner Commanding Officer of USCG TORNADO (Pascagoula, MS), developing tactics for use of this new asset in migrant recovery and smuggler interdiction. Before TORNADO, he was the Executive Officer for Coast Guard Patrol Forces Southwest Asia (Manama, Bahrain) supporting USCG ships in the Persian Gulf. From 2000 to 2003 he was the Chief of Military Personnel Policy at CGHQ and also the Senior White House Social Aide leading joint-service teams for events like State Dinners and bill signings for the Clinton and Bush Administration. Prior to this staff tour CDR Hollingshead served two tours in Miami Beach, FL, one as Commanding Officer of USCGC BARANOF and the other as a District Seven Search & Rescue Controller. His other afloat tours include Executive Officer on USCGC NANTUCKET (Roosevelt Roads, PR and Key West, FL) and Deck Watch Officer and Boarding Officer on USCGC YOCONA (Kodiak, AK).
CDR Hollingshead is a 1991 graduate of the Coast Guard Academy with a BS in Government and a 2007 graduate of the Naval War College with an MA in National Security and Strategic Studies and a certificate as a Joint Operational Planner. CDR Hollingshead is a native of Geyserville, California. After two tours with the Navy he and his wife are happy to be back among Coast Guardsmen.
His awards include three Meritorious Service Medals with Operational Distinguishing Device, three Coast Guard Commendation Medals with Operational Distinguishing Device, the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Coast Guard Achievement Medal with Operational Distinguishing Device, the Commandants Letter of Commendation with Operational Distinguishing Device, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal and Five Humanitarian Service Medals.
