Providing Credentials to Mariners
The National Maritime Center has been going through several new changes in regards to issuing Merchant Mariner's Credentials (MMC). NMC is now producing a new credential which looks similar to a United States Passport. All US Mariners will be issued this credential as a replacement of their past MMD. You will have several endorsements depending on your Seatime and tonnage experience
A TWIC is a Transportation Worker Identification Credential.
It is a tamper-resistant, common identification credential, issued by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), containing a biometric (fingerprint template) of the card holder.
If you are applying for any Merchant Mariner credentials, you must already have applied for a TWIC
