A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is a common identification credential issued by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), containing the biometrics of the card holder. The National Maritime Center uses TSA as their primary source for security checks. It is highly recommend that you apply for a TWIC. However, mariners without a valid TWIC who operate vessels that do not have a security plan may obtain a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC), as outlined in USCG Policy Letter 11-15 and further described in the TWIC Exemption Announcement.
