Searching for Approved Courses, DEs, or QAs

Courses
Approved courses satisfy regulatory requirements and may substitute for an examination or a sea service requirement.

Designated Examiners/Qualified Assessors
A person trained or instructed in techniques of training or assessment and is qualified to evaluate whether a candidate for an endorsement has achieved the competence required to hold a Merchant Mariner Credential.

Designated Examiners (DEs)

The link below will allow you to search for a designated examiner. Please note that the listing below only includes designated examiners that have allowed their information to be published on our website. This list does not include all approved designated examiners.

Designated Examiners (DEs) are qualified and approved by the Coast Guard to evaluate the proficiency of candidates who are completing their Towing Officer Assessment Record (TOAR) by comparing the performance of tasks against the performance standards published by the Coast Guard. DE qualifications are limited to those routes that the DE is qualified to sail under the authority of their own credential.

Qualified Assessor (QA)

Step 1- Enter their QAID number to find their qualifications:

Qualified Assessors (QAs) are qualified and approved by the Coast Guard to evaluate the proficiency of candidates who are completing assessments by comparing the performance of tasks against the performance standards published by the Coast Guard. QA qualifications are limited to those routes that the QA is qualified to sail under the authority of their own credential.
