MWR Internship, Cape May, New Jersey
DESCRIPTION: Coast Guard Training Center Cape May is the home of the Coast Guard enlisted corps -- it is our Coast Guard enlisted accession point and recruit training center. The finest young men and women in service to the United States of America pass through our gates each year. Morale, Well-Being, and Recreation (MWR) facilities/activities on the installation include: Gym/Pool complex, Tennis & Racquetball courts, Weight Rooms, Volleyball, Athletic Fields, Tours & Tickets Office, Equipment Rental, Temporary Lodging, Movie Theater, a small Marina, and two Food and Beverage Facilities. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Training Center Cape May seeks interns with emphasis in abilities to gain experience in conducting intramural sports competitions, outdoor recreation programs, special events and aquatics (highly recommended that students be lifeguard certified if they want to work in aquatics). Opportunities exist in all facilities/programs listed above. Must be a student in good standing pursuing an undergraduate/graduate degree in Recreation or other MWR-related field and identified as such by an institution of higher learning having an affiliation agreement with the Coast Guard.SUPERVISOR QUALIFICATIONS: Mr. Tony Buero began his second career with Coast Guard MWR in January 2007. His experience includes 28 years of service with the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. While on active duty, he served as Director of MWR, Naval Training Center Orlando and as the Administrative Officer/MWR Officer on board the USS HARRY S TRUMAN (CVN 75). Leadership skills are a natural, he is a fine mentor, and is aggressively working on numerous new and exciting events for Training Center Cape May.
HOUSING: Housing will be provided on the installation. The housing will be in a non-smoking facility and pets are not allowed. Students will coordinate housing with the Cape May MWR Director once selected at that location.
MEALS: Interns will be issued a meal pass for the galley that serves 3 meals per day.

Pay will not be provided.TRAVEL:
Travel to and from the internship is the responsibility of the student. Arrangements may be made for pick up at the airport by contacting the Cape May MWR Director prior to arrival. Contact information will be provided to you once selected for the internship.AVAILABILITY:
Intern positions may be open for 12 to 16 weeks in duration (depending on school requirements), on a year-round basis. Best time for internship is May-September when more events occur. (Note: There is no requirement to join the Coast Guard, these are civilian positions).TO APPLY:

Planning ahead is most important especially if we need to establish an affiliation agreement with your university.
