About the Course
The Executive Development Seminar, conducted by the Office of Personnel Management's Management Development Center, provides experienced managers the opportunity to strengthen their ability to make sound decisions that lead to meaningful change in critically important areas. The program strengthens the employee's competencies in the areas of external awareness, strategic thinking, vision, cultural awareness, integrity/honesty, accountability, decisiveness, financial management, oral communication, partnering, and political savvy.
The training requires participants to be away from their position for 2 weeks.
Participant Objectives
- Gain enhanced knowledge of techniques and approaches for leading change in areas critical to future mission success.
- Enhance skills at producing results, assuring accountability, building coalitions, and communicating effectively
- Better understand the interrelationship of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches in the development of public policy and become more cognizant of roles played by special interest groups and the media.
Eligibility
GS 14-15 managers, O6 managers, and newly appointed SESTimeframe
15-25 April 2013 (Application Deadline:
31 Jan 2013)
Application Procedure
To apply:
- Coordinate with your Training Officer or ESO to submit an Electronic Training Request (ETR) using Direct Access. Course code: 500912.
- Write a statement that describes: (a) Your
current leadership responsibilities, and
(b) a recent work experience that involved extensive collaboration.- Include the course title and convening date within the subject line of the e-mail.
- Include your supervisor in the cc line of the e-mail and send all documents in a pdf file and send as an e-mail attachment to HQS-SMB-CG-133TrainingCourses@uscg.mil
Costs are paid by Coast Guard Headquarters (AFC 56 "C" school account).
Selection Procedures
Selected individuals will be notified by record message traffic of their selection. Alternates will be selected and will attend the program in the event a primary candidate cannot attend.
