Master Chief Petty Officer Daniel West
Command Master Chief
Master Chief Operations Specialist Daniel West is a native of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in January 1982 and completed his recruit training in Cape May, N.J. After recruit training, he reported to Operations Specialist “A” school in Damneck, Virginia. After graduation from OS “A” school he reported aboard to Coast Guard Cutter Gallatin home ported in New York City. In 1985 he reported to Coast Guard Cutter Courageous stationed in Key West, Florida for his final 2 years of active duty as a Second Class Radarman.
Upon release from active duty in 1987 Master Chief West immediately transferred into the Reserve program. His first assignment in the Reserves was Marine Safety Office Pittsburgh where he served as the Boat Operations Team Leader. During this assignment period he was recalled for the Midwest floods in 1993 and twice in 2003 and 2005 for military out loads in Port Arthur, Texas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In June 2010 Master Chief West transferred to Command Center Sector Buffalo and served there for one year. In July 2011 Master Chief West transferred to Port Security Unit 309 in Port Clinton, Ohio as the Command Master Chief.
Master Chief West has attended numerous service schools and is a graduate of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy. Master Chief West’s military awards include the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals, Commandant’s Letter of Commendation Ribbon, Coast Guard Good Conduct, eight Coast Guard Reserve Good Conduct awards and several other unit and personal awards.
In 1991 Master Chief West graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy and is currently employed as a Liquor Enforcement Officer.
