Photo Image BMCM Deborah MarshMaster Chief Boatswains Mate Deb Marsh entered the Coast Guard on March 23, 1987.  She was assigned to CG Station Marblehead and received her communications watch-stander, crewman and coxswain qualifications.  In 1990, she deployed to Desert Storm and served as the first female tactical coxswain in Manama, Bahrain.  In 1994, the unit was recalled to active duty again to participate in Operation Uphold Democracy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  During her tenure at Port Security Unit 309, she served in Pohang, South Korea; Alexandria, Egypt; and New York City. In 1996, Master Chief served with the PSU TRADET in Camp Perry, Ohio and was a primary trainer for the battle roster PSU tactical coxswains.  In 2000, she was reassigned back to PSU 309 as a Boat Division Chief, and was responsible for all training and readiness issues for 54 unit personnel.  She was recalled to active duty in 2003 to serve in Ash Shuaiba, Kuwait and Kuwait Naval Base.  In 2005 the unit was recalled to participate in Hurricane Katrina Operations where Master Chief assisted in STA Gulfport’s recovery efforts.  In 2009, Master Chief was reassigned to STA St. Clair Shores and assumed the Reserve Department Head responsibilities.  In 2010, she was recalled to active duty for the Deepwater Horizon Response and served as the Training Officer and Deputy Assistant Logistics Chief for 10 months in Venice, La.  Master Chief was then reassigned to Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur, Texas as the Training Officer and Executive Petty Officer at the Small Boat Facility.  She has been attached to PSU 308 since October of 2012.

Master Chief Marsh’s personal awards include the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals with operational distinguishing devices, Commandants Letter of Commendation Ribbon with operational distinguishing device, and numerous other campaign and unit ribbons.  She has also earned the Port Security Unit Insignia, the Coxswain Insignia, and Boat Forces Operations Insignia.

Master Chief makes her home in Winnie, Texas where she lives with her dog Rylee.
