Master Chief King’s military career began with his enlistment in the US Navy. From 1981 – 1985 he served aboard the USS New Jersey as an Interior Communications Electrician. His service included an extended Mediterranean deployment in support of US Marines and the Multinational Peacekeeping Force – Beirut Lebanon.

In 1999, Master Chief King entered the Coast Guard Reserve as a Machinery Technician assigned to PSU305. Following 9/11, he was deployed to New York City, Guantanamo Bay Cuba, and Rota Spain. In 2004, he was transferred to Station Elizabeth City followed by an assignment to Base Support Unit Portsmouth. Master Chief King volunteered to return to PSU305 in 2011 and deployed with the unit to Kuwait Naval Base in 2012. He was assigned as PSU308’s collateral duty Command Master Chief in July, 2014.

In addition, he recently retired as a police lieutenant after a 25-year career with the Portsmouth, VA Police Department.

Master Chief King has an AS in Criminal Justice from Tidewater Community College and a BS in Business Finance from Old Dominion University. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Chief Petty Officer Academy.

His awards include the Army Achievement Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal, and the Navy Expeditionary Medal.
