Commander Silverman-Wise assumed duties as Commanding Officer, Port Security Unit (PSU) 308 Kiln, Mississippi in December 2015. Responsible for leading a 160 member expeditionary unit supporting national security, defense, and disaster relief operations for the Coast Guard and Naval Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) during OCONUS missions and forward deployments.
During her Coast Guard Reserve career, she was assigned as the Executive Officer of Port Security Unit 313 in Everett, WA; Operations Officer of Port Security Unit 307 in Clearwater, FL; Senior Reserve Officer at the National Command Center in Washington, DC; Investigations Duty Officer with the Prevention Department at Sector Southeastern New England; Response Team member at Marine Safety Office Providence, RI; Group Duty Officer at Group Portland, ME; Coast Guard District One Planning Office; and Quartermaster Third Class on Governors Island, NY. Commander Silverman-Wise held a commission with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and served on the NOAA Ship Whiting (1992-1994).
Commander Silverman-Wise deployed in support of a variety of exercises and operations. Of interest are, to Boston following the 9/11 attacks as a member of the inaugural Homeland Security Development Branch (2001); to New York City as Liaison Officer to Coast Guard District One in support of the Operation Vigilant Guard (RNC) (2004); to New Orleans as Planning Chief in support of Hurricane Katrina rescue/relief operations (2005); to North Carolina as Boat Officer for joint PSU 308/307/305/301 participation in the Naval Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) Bold Alligator exercise (2012); and to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for Joint Task Force Maritime Security Detachment mission and area familiarization (2015).
Commander Silverman-Wise’s honors and awards include: Port Security Insignia; Coast Guard Commendation Medals; Coast Guard Achievement Medals; Presidential Unit Citation, Unit Commendations, Meritorious Team Awards; National Defense Service Medals; Global War on Terrorism Medal; Armed Forces Service Medal; Department of Transportation 9-11 Medal; Coast Guard Sea Service; Armed Forces Reserve Medals; Coast Guard Rifleman and Pistol Marksman.
Commander Silverman-Wise earned a Master of Arts in Emergency and Disaster Management from American Military University, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Engineering Management from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. In her civilian career, she is a Project Manager for Aveshka, Inc., an employee-owned professional services firm focused on addressing our nation’s most complex threats and challenges.
