Master
Chief Steven Cantrell assumed the duties of the Atlantic Area Command Master
Chief in May 2010.
Prior to his current assignment, he served as the Command Master Chief to
the Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard. Master Chief Cantrell’s other shore
assignments have been as the Eighth Coast Guard District’s Command Master
Chief in New Orleans, LA, Officer in Charge of USCG Station Panama City
Beach, FL, Command Master Chief of the First Coast Guard District in Boston
MA, Officer in Charge of USCG Station Wrightsville Beach NC, Officer in
Charge of USCG Station Alexandria Bay NY, Officer in Charge of USCG Station
Harbor Beach MI, and as the Operations Petty Officer at USCG Station
Barnegat Light, NJ. Master Chief Cantrell’s afloat assignments have been as
the Officer in Charge of USCGC RIDLEY and POINT WELLS in Montauk NY,
Executive Petty Officer of USCGC POINT CAMDEN in Santa Barbara CA, USCGC
CONFIDENCE in Port Canaveral FL, USCGC PATOKA in Greenville MS, and USCGC
RAMBLER in Charleston SC.
Master Chief Cantrell is a graduate of Class 45 of the Chief Petty Officer
Academy, the National Defense University’s Keystone Command Senior Enlisted
Course, and numerous service related schools.
Master Chief Cantrell’s awards include two Meritorious Service Medals, one
CG Commendation Medal, seven CG Achievement Medals, and numerous other
personal and service awards. He has earned a permanent cutterman’s insignia,
coxswain insignia, boat forces insignia, command afloat and ashore insignia,
and Command Master Chief (gold badge) insignia.
