Commander Anthony W. Williams


Commander Williams is a native of Fairfax, Virginia. He graduated from the Naval Academy Prep School in 1992 and the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Government.  He earned a Master of Science degree in Quality Systems Management and a Six Sigma Green Belt certification from the National Graduate School in 2009.  He reports to SPENCER after serving 4 years on the Pacific Area staff, the last two years he served as the Chief of Cutter Forces.

Commander Williams has had five previous afloat tours  two of which he served as Commanding Officer; USCGC AQUIDNECK in the Middle East and USCGC BLOCK ISLAND in North Carolina. He also served as Executive Officer of the USCGC ALEX HALEY and Operations Officer of the USCGC ACUSHNET.  From 1998 till 2000 he served as Officer In Charge of a Law Enforcement Detachment of the Coast Guard’s Tactical Law Enforcement Team South and from 2000 to 2001 he served as Officer in Charge of the Deployable Pursuit Boat detachment in Miami, FL.  From 2005 until 2007 he served as the Coast Guard Office of Law Enforcement’s liaison to DHS Headquarters and during that tour he deployed to downtown New Orleans as the Operations Section Chief in response to Hurricane Katrina. 

Commander Williams has earned the permanent Cutterman Insignia and Tactical Law Enforcement Insignia. His personal awards include 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 4 Commendation Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Iraq Campaign Medal.
