FANTAIL: This is the aftermost part of the ship. The towing bits, to secure the towing hawser and mooring lines, as well as the Cutter Boat Large (CBL) are located here.
Cutter Boat Large (CBL): The CBL has a length of 20 feet, and can carry a maximum of 10 people.
FLIGHT DECK: An HH-65 Dolphin and the HH-60 helicopter Jayhawk and a five-person AVDET crew also can deploy with SENECA. The HH-65 & the HH-60 are used for search and rescue (SAR) and LE missions. The flight deck is fitted with a hangar (right picture) that can be extended to protect the helo from inclement weather when underway.
Over-the-Horizon Boat (OTH): The OTH has a length of 23 feet, is a rigid hull inflatable boat and can carry a maximum of 15 people.
SPS-73 SURFACE SEARCH RADARS (SSR): The two radar antennas on the mast provide the detection, navigation, and collision avoidance information to the watch officers on the bridge and the watch team in the Combat Information Center.
COMBAT INFORMATION CENTER (CIC): CIC is where information from radars, lookouts and other electronic sensors is collected, displayed, and evaluated. CIC also houses the SCCS-270 system which is used for navigation, target tracking, collision avoidance and tactical maneuvering.
MK-92 GUN FIRE CONTROL SYSTEM (FCS): The MK-92 FCS uses radar input and computer solutions to track targets and operate the 76mm gun.
BRIDGE: The Officer of the Deck (OOD) navigates the ship and controls the engines from the bridge. The bridge also has an SCCS-270 console that is used for navigation, and collision avoidance.
76 mm / 62 CALIBER GUN MK 75: Designed by OTO Melara SpA of Italy. The 76mm gun works in conjunction with the MK-92 GUN FCS.
FORECASTLE: The forecastle is the foreward-most part of a ship. The 76mm gun is located here as well as the ground tackle which is used to drop and hoist SENECA's two 4400-pound anchors.
FIN STABILIZERS: The fins rotate while the ship is underway to reduce uncomfortable rolls in heavy seas. This counteraction makes the ship more stable which is vital for safe helicopter operations and improved seakeeping.
MAIN PROPULSION DIESEL ENGINES (MDE): SENECA has two diesel engines. The torque developed by each engine is transmitted via reduction gear through the main propulsion shafting to power each propeller.
ENGINEERING CONTROL CENTER (ECC): This compartment is the nerve center for SENECA's engineering auxiliary and propulsion systems. Vital systems such as the ship's main diesel engines and electrical generators are controlled from this space. The console was redesigned and modernized with improved computer-graphic interfaces in 2000.
REPAIR LOCKER 3: SENECA has 2 repair lockers on board. The typical repair locker contains firefighting equipment such as firefighting ensembles and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) (Pictured to the right), and damage control equipment such as pipe patching and shoring kits.
CHIEF PETTY OFFICER (CPO) STATEROOM: There are five CPO Staterooms onboard SENECA. Each stateroom contains 2 racks and desk and locker space for their occupants.
CHIEF PETTY OFFICER MESS: Chiefs enjoy their own mess, which also serves as a lounge. . . the intellectual center of gravity for the ship.
MESS DECK: The Mess Deck is where the crew eats. While underway this is a central point for crew's morale activities, and of course movie nights.
WARDROOM: The wardroom serves as the officers dining and lounge area. As with many other compartments on SENECA, the wardroom also serves as a meeting center, and a battle dressing station in emergencies.
MAIN PASSAGEWAY: The Main Passageway runs fore and aft, nearly the entire length of the ship. It provides access to vital areas onboard the ship such as the Ship's Office, Bosn's Hold, Crew's Berthing, Damage Control Central, Repair Locker 2, Mess Deck, and Chief's Mess.
OFFICERS STATE ROOM: There are nine officer staterooms onboard SENECA. Junior officers share two-person staterooms, while the Commanding Officer, Executive Office, Operations Officer, and Engineer Officer have their own staterooms. The junior officer staterooms contain two racks, desk and locker space.
ENLISTED BERTHING The SENECA has five enlisted berthing areas onboard ranging from nine person to twenty-one person occupancy. Each berthing area also contains it's own lounge or a lounge in close proximity.
