FSC Jeremy Coffey joined the U.S. Coast Guard in September of 2000. After graduating Boot Camp, he began his career as a “Deckie” aboard CGC BOUTWELL in Alameda, CA. After spending a quick two years onboard and becoming Lead Seaman, he then went to Food Service Specialist “A” school in 2002.

Chief Coffey graduated “A” school as Class Leader and was acknowledged with the “Top Hat” award by his classmates and instructors. His first rated unit was the 175’ Buoy Tender CGC JAMES RANKIN out of Baltimore, MD. Here, he along with the other FS2 won the Coast Guard “Galley of the Year” award for 2005. He was also the ships Unit Health Promotion Coordinator (UHPC) and inport OOD and while onboard, obtained his SERVSAFE certificate for food handling. His next transfer took him to Station Cape Canaveral where he assumed the duties and responsibilities of the Food Service Officer (FSO) and held the collateral of UHPC, Master at Arms (MAA) and also led weekly PT tests for boarding team members to maintain station qualifications. Reporting to land once again, he and his family moved to Station Atlantic City, NJ, where Chief Coffey assumed the role of FSO and made 1st Class in 2008. While in Atlantic City, he also served as UHPC, Command Drug and Alcohol Representative (CDAR), and MAA while working in a galley that supported 42 active duty men and women and 19 enlisted reservists. Transferring to CGC WILLIAM TATE in 2011, Chief Coffey assumed his 3rd FSO duty and returned to the “black hull” life. Here he quickly qualified as boom operator for ATON evolutions, unit CDAR, UHPC, and supervised line handling operations during mooring stations. He was nominated by his command for Galley and FS of the year during this period. After seven years of sea time, FSC reported to Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia, PA, for a quick year before being notified that he was making E-7. His first pick ended him at his current unit, CGC MOHAWK, where he assumed the FSO, CDAR, and current position as Command Chief.

During his 15 year career, FSC Coffey has managed five Dining Facility establishments as a Food Service Officer. His awards include: Three Coast Guard Achievement Medals w/ operational distinguishing devices, one Commandant’s Letter of Commendation, four Good Conduct Medals, and numerous other personal and unit awards.
