MKC Brian Smith assumed the duties of Command Chief for USCGC MOHAWK (WMEC-913) in April 2014. As the Command Chief, his primary responsibility is to advise the Commanding Officer on issues and initiatives pertaining to all enlisted members within the command, while also communicating the command’s goals and direction to the enlisted workforce.

Chief Smith was born in Washington D.C. and enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1996 at Recruiting Office Bowie, MD.  He began his career on the 133' Buoy Tender CGC WHITE HEATH (WLM-545) in Boston, MA.  His previous assignments also include: CGC SPENCER; CGC JUNIPER; CGC ESCANABA; CGC CLEAT; CGC DALLAS; as well as WLM/WLB MAT Newport, RI and Sector Detroit Prevention. His personal awards include two Coast Guard Achievement Medals (with Operational Distinguishing Device), four Commandant Letters of Commendation (with Operational Distinguishing Device), five Coast Guard Good Conduct Medals, and multiple unit and service awards.
