Guardians of the First Coast
Mayport, Florida

Congratulations on your orders to USCGC KINGFISHER (WPB 87322)! You are about to join the ranks of one of the finest crews in the Coast Guard! We are excited to have you aboard.

Homeported at Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville (adjacent to U.S. Naval Station Mayport), KINGFISHER was the 22nd Marine Protector Class Coast Guard Patrol Boat and was commissioned on September 9th, 2000. Built by Bollinger Shipyards Inc. of Lockport, LA, KINGFISHER employs the latest technological advances in navigation and marine technology. A fully integrated electronics suite coordinates RADAR, satellite navigation, gyro compass, autopilot and computer generated charts to form a compact but user friendly command and control system for all the ship's missions. A unique stern launch system is employed to deploy the small boat. This system (which is now being integrated throughout the Coast Guard's fleet) is vastly superior in safety, speed, and manning requirements. The engine room incorporates electronic control and monitoring systems with video readouts that can be monitored from the engine room or the bridge. Due to multiple two-person staterooms throughout, the crew can be and combination of male or female, a first for this size cutter.

KINGFISHER's primary missions are the Enforcement of Laws and Treaties (ELT) and Search and Rescue (SAR) within Sector Jacksonville's area of responsibility (AOR). The AOR encompasses an area from the St. Mary's River (FL/GA) line to just South of Cape Canaveral. KINGFISHER normally completes two to three short ELT patrols each month, with primary enforcement focused on commercial fisheries. Though fisheries enforcement is our primary ELT mission, other operations include Counter Drug Ops, Alien Migration and Interdiction (AMID), Defense Readiness, Environmental Protection and Maritime Security around the Kennedy Space Center for manned space flights.
