officer, LCDR Cashman entered
Officer
Candidate
School
in January of 1999.He was
previously an assistant dockmaster in
Marblehead
,
Massachusetts
and operated small passenger vessels on a limited master’s license. LCDR
Cashman graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1997 with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences with a focus in
geophysical fluid dynamics.In
2003 LCDR Cashman was selected for the Coast Guard’s funded Legal
Post-Graduate Program and graduated cum laude with a concentration
certificate in International Law from
Suffolk
University
Law
School
in
Boston
,
Massachusetts
in May 2006.
Upon
graduating from OCS in May of 1999, LCDR Cashman served as Deck Watch
Officer, Communications Officer, and Navigator in CGC CAMPBELL (WMEC 909).During his tour, CGC CAMPBELL participated in BALTOPS 2000, three
counter-narcotics patrols in the
Caribbean
and four First District Living Marine Resources patrols.
Following
his tour on the CGC CAMPBELL, LCDR Cashman served from June 2001 to July
2003 as Executive Officer in CGC ASSATEAGUE (WPB 1337) home-ported in
Honolulu
,
Hawaii
.He was recognized by the State
as the Coast Guard’s 14th District “Top Cop” in 2002 for
his counter-terrorism and domestic law enforcement efforts.As a Coast Guard Judge Advocate, LCDR Cashman served for three months
with the Marine Corps as a prosecutor at
Camp Lejeune
,
NC
followed by four years as a staff attorney for Commander, First Coast Guard
District in
Boston
,
MA
.
LCDR
Cashman’s personal awards include two Coast Guard Commendation Medals, two
Coast Guard Achievement Medals, the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and
six Meritorious Team Commendation awards.Civilian awards include the Bronze Congressional Award for community
service in 1993.
