Welcome Aboard !!!  This portion of our website is provided to help personnel reporting aboard GALLATIN gain data and contacts in the Charleston area for housing, wellness, medical access, schools, shopping, and entertainment.

Charleston is an excellent homeport and we are certain that everything you'll need will be available. It is a friendly, warm city with  plenty of history and culture. On our Charleston page we've provided a few links to interesting sites concerning Charleston, its history, and things to see and do in the area.

SPONSOR

Your sponsor will be your primary source of detailed information regarding your move, GALLATIN , your  future duties, watchstanding and qualifications, and training requirements. Please don't hesitate to call or send e-mail to our ADMIN DIVISION should you require assistance. A welcome aboard message will be sent to your command as soon as you receive orders to USCGC GALLATIN and will identify your sponsor or an alternate point of contact should the ship be underway.

HOUSING

GALLATIN'S housing needs are primarily met through the Housing Officer at USCG Sector Charleston. Members with dependents may liaison directly with CHARLESTON NAVAL WEAPONS STATION HOUSING or may obtain housing in the open market.  Members E-3 and below that are single will live aboard the ship but may request assignment to leased housing after qualifying in their primary billets and demonstrating good performance.  Members E-4 and above are entitled to Basic Allowance for Housing to live on the economy.  There is no mandatory housing requirement for GALLATIN crewmembers E-4 and above.  Contact your sponsor or our admin department (843-308-9662 ext 235/236) for further information.  Some helpful links are listed below.

MEDICAL

We care about the health and well being of the entire GALLATIN family, including members as well as their spouses and dependents.  Crewmember medical needs are met through the Charleston Naval Hospital medical facilities, with Charleston Air Force Base as a secondary source. TriCare is the provider for most of our  dependents.  Information on the TriCare program or Charleston area sources may be obtained through the TriCare Office at the Naval Hospital, Charleston Naval Weapons Station: (843) 743-7000.

Crewmembers are reminded that a military ID is required for emergency care at any of the area’s hospitals; do not remove your medical record from the ship, and be sure to inform the HS personnel as soon as possible.
