Commander Greg Wisener’s experience includes 11 years of sea duty. He served two tours aboard USCGC CHASE (WHEC 718) home ported in San Pedro, California as both a Deck Watch Officer and the Weapons Department Head and two tours aboard USCGC EAGLE (WIX 327) home ported in New London, Connecticut where he was responsible for training 1,500 future Coast Guard officers in leadership and seamanship, first as the Operations Officer and later as the Executive Officer. Most recently, Commander Wisener completed a two year tour as the Executive Officer aboard USCGC MORGENTHAU (WHEC 722) home ported in Alameda, California where he and his shipmates patrolled from the Bering Sea to the Eastern Pacific. Commander Wisener’s assignments ashore have included: Operations Officer for the Pacific Strike Team in Novato, California where he helped to introduce the Incident Command System (ICS) to the Coast Guard; Performance Branch Chief and Assistant Training Officer at Training Center Petaluma, California; Personnel Officer at Integrated Support Center San Pedro; and service as the Coast Guard’s Liaison Officer to the Navy’s Training Systems Division in Orlando, Florida. Commander Wisener is a 1991 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy. Additionally, he holds a Master of Science degree in Instructional and Performance Technology from Boise State University. He is also a licensed Merchant Marine Officer, with an unlimited Chief Mate and 1600 ton Masters License for steam, motor, or sailing vessels. Commander Wisener’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, five Coast Guard Commendation medals, the Coast Guard Achievement Medal and various other personal and unit awards. |
