Photo Deployment in the Straits of Florida

During the deployment in the Straits of Florida, the crew of the Decisive assisted with the interdiction of 101 Cuban migrants. In many cases, migrant vessels interdicted at sea are overloaded and unseaworthy. Migrants embark on dangerous voyages in homemade vessels bound for the United States. When intercepted, migrants are removed from their homemade rafts under the Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) convention, which allows termination of voyages of inherently unsafe vessels. Crewmembers provided the migrants with food, water and shelter plus basic medical attention.

The crew of Decisive was awarded the Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation award for towing motor vessel Kalebah to safety. The disabled General Cargo ship, KALEBAH, lost power off the coast of Florida, endangering the ship of drifting into the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.

Smoke and Fire practices

Smoke is one of 16 distress signals. Crew members must be proficient with using and recognizing the signal for a vessel requiring assistance.

Venezuela and DECISIVE work together

CGC Decisive worked closely with the Venezuelan Coast Guard during the Joint Interagency Task Force (JITAF) South winter 2010 patrol. The Decisive crew had an opportunity to visit Martinique, Trinidad, Barbados and San Juan.
