CDR Wendy Tomko is a 1994 graduate of Officer Candidate School havingPhoto Image CDR Wendy M. Tomko earned a Bachelors of Arts Degree in English and History from Louisiana State University.  Initially assigned to the Coast Guard Institute, she aspired to be assigned afloat. Within short order she was assigned as a Deck Watch Officer aboard CGC VENTUROUS, St. Petersburg, FL.

Commander Tomko's follow on afloat tours included two tours onboard USCGC SHERMAN in Alameda, CA as Support Officer and again as Operations Officer where she earned her permanent cutterman's pin. Additionally, she served as Executive Officer on board USCGC ALEX HALEY in Kodiak, AK. Most recently, Commander Tomko completed a successful tour at Afloat Training Group (ATG), Norfolk VA where she oversaw training for the major cutter fleet.

Her other assignments included two staff tours in District Eleven, Alameda CA. She was assigned as Assistance Branch Chief, Office of Search and Rescue and qualified as a District and Pacific Area Command Center Watch Supervisor. Commander Tomko's second staff tour was as Branch Chief District Eleven Intelligence. 

Commander Tomko holds a Master of Science Degree in Quality System Management and earned a greenbelt in Six Sigma Process Improvement from The National Graduate School. She is a licensed master (seagoing vessels up to 1,600 tons) and holds a 2nd mate unlimited license (STCW certified). Her personal awards include 5 Commendation Medals, 1 Achievement Medal, and several unit and team awards.
