Commander Walsh graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1995 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Government. His first assignment was aboard USCGC HAMILTON (WHEC 715) in Long Beach, CA as a Deck Watch Officer.

Commander Walsh’s previous afloat assignments include tours as the Operations Officer aboard USCGC FORWARD (WMEC 911) in Portsmouth, VA; as Commanding Officer on USCGC STATEN ISLAND (WPB 1345) in Atlantic Beach, NC; and as Executive Officer on USCGC DAUNTLESS (WMEC 624) homeported in Galveston, TX.

His other assignments include tours as Law Enforcement Detachment 5A Officer in Charge at Tactical Law Enforcement Team (TACLET) North, Operations Officer TACLET North; United States Coast Guard Atlantic Area Staff, Major Cutter Scheduler and Mission Effectiveness Project Officer, and as a joint military planner, J35 Future Operations Division at U.S. Northern Command in Colorado Springs, CO.

Commander Walsh holds a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College, Command and Staff.  Commander Walsh is also a graduate of the United States Navy’s Maritime Advanced Warfighting School.  His personal awards include five Coast Guard Commendation Medals, a Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
