This portion of our site is dedicated to help your transition
to the DALLAS as painless as possible. Whether your fresh out of boot camp,
the Academy, OCS, direct commission school, or transferring from another unit
all the information you should need will be here. However, if by some chance
we missed something just give our Admin staff a call (843-308-9636) and they'll
be happy to help you. We hope your initial experience with our unit is better
then you could have ever hoped for. Ok now for a quick overview of what you
can expect...
When you first receive orders to DALLAS you should receive a welcome aboard message addressed to your current command on CGMS. This
message should tell you some information about the unit that will be important for reporting aboard. It will also assign you a sponsor to help with the transition.
In addition the units ombudsman can be contacted at his/her permanent cell phone number of 843-863-8314.
Your sponsor is somebody that you should get to know well before
you show up at the brow. This person will be able to answer immediate questions
you may have about the unit, your move, or the billet you may be filling -
SO USE THEM!!! Any person on the ship will be more than willing to help you
out, you just have to ask.
In addition to your sponsor many personnel (particularly junior
personnel) will be assigned a "running-mate". This person will be
a mentor of sorts once you report aboard to make your transition a good one.
They will walk you through the ship, teach you things about the unit, and
most importantly watch you during your first few weeks onboard. Housing
DALLAS' housing needs are primarily met through the Housing Officer at USCG Group Charleston. Accompanied members may liaison directly
with Charleston Naval Weapons
Station Housing or may obtain housing in the open market. There is no
mandatory housing requirement for DALLAS crewmembers. Single members reporting
to the ship must first meet specific watch and Basic Damage Control qualifications
prior to being placed on the unaccompanied housing list. Contact your sponsor
for further information.
Medical
Crewmember medical needs are met through the Charleston Naval
Hospital medical facilities, with Charleston Air Force Base as a secondary
source. TriCare is the provider for most of our dependents. Information
on the TriCare program or Charleston area sources may be obtained through
the medical representative at USCG Group Charleston, or through the TriCare
representative at any of the military medical facilities in the area.
