Captain Munro enlisted in the Coast Guard Oct 1977 while living in Pensacola, Fl. He served ten years as a quartermaster on two 210 ft medium endurance cutters (Key West & Panama City, Fl); and at the Eighth District Command Center in New Orleans. He was selected for Officer Candidate School in 1987 while a Chief Petty Officer aboard cutter DEPENDABLE. He served aboard five additional cutters (three based in the northeast, two of which routinely patrolled the Caribbean; plus two patrol boats based in Puerto Rico), with three intervening operational assignments ashore; District Command Center Controller in New Orleans (90-93), Chief of Search & Rescue in what is now Sector San Juan, PR (97-2000), and Response Chief in Sector New York (03-07). Captain Munro has had two previous commands afloat; CGC OCRACOKE in Puerto Rico (95-97) and most recently cutter CAMPBELL in Kittery, Maine (07-09). He last served as the Coast Guard Liaison Officer in Panama.
Captain Munro holds two Meritorious Service Medals, four Commendation Medals and two Achievement medals and is a member of the Marine Society of New York.
