Commander Matthew T. Meilstrup
United States Coast Guard

A Mishawaka, Indiana native, Commander Meilstrup graduated from the United Stated Coast Guard Academy in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Science. Upon commissioning, Commander Meilstrup served as a Deck Watch Officer and Operations Officer aboard USCGC GENTIAN (WLB 290), home-ported in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. His next tour was Operations Officer in the U. S. Navy Exchange Program aboard the USS SIROCCO (PC 6), a Cyclone-class Patrol Boat, and he assumed command of the USCGC POINT HURON (WPB 82357) in 1996; both ships being home-ported in Little Creek, Virginia. He served as the Hotel Company Officer at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut from 1998 to 2001. From 2001 to 2002, he was assigned as the Navigator aboard the tall ship, USCGC EAGLE (WIX 327). He was the Commanding Officer of USCGC SASSAFRAS (WLB 401) in Guam and later commissioned and commanded USCGC SEQUOIA (WLB 215) from 2002 to 2005. He then served as a Regional Advisor in the Coast Guard Headquarters International Affairs office.  From 2008 to 2010, he was the Executive Officer of USCGC JARVIS (WHEC 725) in Honolulu, Hawaii. On 13 August 2010, Commander Meilstrup assumed command of the USCGC CONFIDENCE (WMEC 619), home-ported in Port Canaveral, Florida.

Commander Meilstrup’s commendations include various personal, unit, and service awards.  In 2006, Commander Meilstrup earned a Masters Degree in International Public Policy from The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. He also holds a Masters in Business Administration from Regis University.
