Summary


The Facilitation Committee (FAL) is a subsidiary body of the Council. It was established in May 1972 and deals with IMO's work in eliminating unnecessary formalities and "red tape" in international shipping. Participation in the Facilitation Committee is open to all Member States of IMO.

The United States is represented on the FAL Committee by the Coast Guard. The Head of Delegation for FAL is the Coast Guard's Standards Evaluation and Development Office Chief, Mr. Howard Hime. Mr. Hime is supported by the Alternate Head of Delegation, Mr. Jaideep Sirkar, the Administrative Program Manager, Mr. David Du Pont, and the various delegation advisors.

U.S. Public Meeting

The U.S. delegation holds a public meeting several weeks prior to departing for the IMO meeting. The purpose of the public meeting is to provide an opportunity for the public to interface with the Coast Guard on the U.S. position for each agenda item.
