Summary
Under the direct instruction of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) and as may be requested by the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), the Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Equipment (DE) considers matters related to the following subjects:
- design, construction, structure, equipment, machinery installations and electrical installations of all types of ships, vessels and craft covered by IMO instruments;
- life-saving equipment, appliances and arrangements; and
- survey and certification.
The United States is represented on the DE Sub-Committee by the Coast Guard. The Head of Delegation for DE is the Coast Guard's Design and Engineering Standards Office Chief, CAPT John Mauger. CAPT Mauger is supported by the Alternate Head of Delegation/Administrative Program Manager, Mr. Wayne Lundy, and the various delegation advisors.

U.S. Public Meeting |

| The U.S. delegation holds a public meeting several weeks prior to departing for the IMO meeting. The purpose of the public meeting is to provide an opportunity for the public to interface with the Coast Guard on the U.S. position for each agenda item. Members of the public interested in attending must contact the meeting coordinator at least 7 days prior to the meeting. The basic meeting details are below however, additional details can be provided by contacting the meeting coordinator. | ||
