In today’s world, U. S. Coast Guard personnel are vulnerable to the effects of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or explosive incidents.
The RDC initiated the Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Countermeasures project specifically to develop strategies, technologies, and procedures for dealing with WMD incidents. The RDC is currently field-testing WMD countermeasures equipment, gear, and training as part of a WMD response pilot program. In addition, the RDC is investigating effective ways to decontaminate small boats and aircraft used during WMD incidents.
