The Coast Guard’s RDC is undertaking two projects to test the performance of sensors onboard surface vessels and aircraft that help the Coast Guard execute its various missions, including search and rescue, drug interdiction and fisheries enforcement. The test results will provide valuable data to improve simulation and modeling tools, computer-aided search planning tools and training materials.
The two testing projects are airborne radar sweep width testing, which involves radar sweeps from various surveillance aircraft, and sensor performance testing, which is focused on two surface platforms – the National Security Cutter (NSC) and the Marine Protector-class Coastal Patrol Boat (CPB).
