The Great Lakes Pilotage Program is a very specialized and unique program that manages the processes and procedures for the United States maritime pilots on the Great Lakes. The program ensures that qualified, trained, and experienced pilots are employed to meet the pilotage demands at a cost that facilitates the safe and efficient waterborne foreign trade in and out of the Great Lakes.
The Great Lakes Pilotage Advisory Committee was established under the authority of 46 U.S.C. 9307, and advises the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Coast Guard on Great Lakes pilot registration, operating requirements, training policies, and pilotage rates and other matters relating to Great Lakes pilotage.
The date and time of the next meeting will be published in the Federal Register when it is determined. The last meeting took place on October 18, 2011.
More information on the advisory committee is available through the public Federal Advisory Committee Database.
