The Office of Boating Safety and Auxiliary is composed of two divisions:
The Auxiliary Division (CG-5421) is the direct representative of the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard to the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer component of Team Coast Guard. Founded in 1939 by an Act of Congress as the US Coast Guard Reserves and re-designated the Auxiliary in 1941. The 28,000 volunteer members (men and women) donate thousands of hours in support of Coast Guard missions.
The U.S. Coast Guard's Boating Safety Division (CG-5422) is dedicated to reducing loss of life, injuries, and property damage that occur on U.S. waterways by improving the knowledge, skills, and abilities of recreational boaters.
