CDR Steve Hendershot is Chief of Project Management, coming to the Yard's Industrial Department in 2012. He manages a staff of 16 project managers and ship superintendents who control cost, schedule and performance of ~$100M/yr in repairs and upgrades to cutters, boats, ordnance and electronic systems and equipment. CDR Hendershot's management includes the $300M+ multi-year Mission Effectiveness Project (MEP) to modernize and extend the service life of all 110’ WPBs & 270’ WMECs. He coordinates with the product lines, planning, estimating & production staffs to ensure successful outcomes, completing required maintenance within budget.
CDR Hendershot has served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 22 years. His previous duty assignments include: Deputy of the Surface Forces Logistics Center's Engineering Services Division, 2007-2011; Executive Officer of Naval Engineering Support Unit Seattle, 2004-2007; Chief of Technical Section, Specifications Branch, Naval Engineering Division, Maintenance & Logistics Command Atlantic, 2000-2004; Engineer Officer, USCGC DILIGENCE, 1996-1998; Graduate School at The George Washington University, 1998-2000; Port Engineer, Naval Engineering Support Unit New Orleans, 1992-1996, and Damage Control Assistant, USCGC RUSH, 1990-1992.
CDR Hendershot earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1990. He received a Master of Engineering Management with a focus in Crisis, Risk and Emergency Management from The George Washington University in 2000 and an Applied Scientist (Professional Degree) in Engineering Management from The George Washington University in 2001.
