DAMAGE CONTROL
Recruits practice firefighting techniques in the full-scale mock- up.
Fighting fires aboard a ship requires diligence and TEAMWORK!
SEAMANSHIP
Much of this training is "hands on". You will learn marlinspike
seamanship, line handling, watchstanding, helm commands, lookout procedures
and deck maintenance. You will also learn proper shipboard fire fighting
techniques. After receiving classroom instructions in these areas you will
then have the opportunity to practice on simulated mark-ups. Recruits must
pass a practical seamanship exam.
RANGE
Recruits will spend a full day at the Training Center’s range
facility. Detailed instruction on proper sidearm handling and firing
techniques are followed with actual firing. Those who attain qualification will be awarded Coast Guard pistol medals and/or ribbons.
