Command Master Chief

Master Chief Athan Kramer is the 10th Command Master Chief to serve Training Center Yorktown. MCPO Kramer’s primary focus is as an advisor to the Commanding Officer of TCYorktown, CAPT William J. Milne and addressing the issues (career, quality of life, environment and personal matters), which affect the 646 permanent party crewmembers at TCYorktown, and 7,000+ students that attend classes at TCYorktown every year.

On May 22, 2009, Master Chief Athan Kramer assumed the duties of Command Master Chief of the United States Coast Guard Training Center in Yorktown, Virginia.  Master Chief Kramer is originally from Prineville, Oregon. He joined the Coast Guard in February of 1986 and attended basic training in Cape May, New Jersey, graduating with class Golf 122.

Master Chief Kramer’s duty assignments have included USCGC YOCONA - Kodiak, AK; Station Kennewick, WA; Air Station Miami, FL; USCGC CAMPBELL, New Bedford, MA; Group Air Station Port Angeles, WA; USCGC WOODRUSH, Sitka, AK; Base Sault Ste. Marie, MI; Pacific Area Tactical Law Enforcement Team (PACTACLET), San Diego, CA; Group Air Station North Bend, OR; and Training Center Petaluma, CA. Master Chief Kramer is a graduate of the Chief Petty Officer Academy Class XIV. His military awards include three Coast Guard Commendation Medals, w/ O device; three Coast Guard Achievement Medals w/O device; three Humanitarian Service Medals; one Outstanding Military Volunteer Service Medal; and numerous unit and service awards. His professional qualifications include the Permanent Cutterman insignia and the Tactical Law Enforcement Insignia.

Master Chief Kramer has also been very active in promoting physical fitness programs at his previous duty stations. While at TRACEN Petaluma, he participated in a daily walking group as well as a weekly hiking group. In 2008 he and a team of Coast Guard runners completed The Relay, a 199-mile run from Calistoga to Santa Cruz, CA, which supports Americans awaiting organ transplants.
