The military physical examination department carries out routine physical examinations, aviation physical and Annual Periodic Health Assesment (PHA's) for active duty members and specialty examinations. To determine physical fitness, Coast Guard members shall be physically examined and are required to meet physical standards prescribed in the Medical Manual (COMDTINST M6000.1B) An examinee who does not meet the standard shall be disqualified.
The department is not currently equipped for routine civilian examinations or FAA flight examinations.
The physical examination department is located on the second floor of Michel Hall and operates by appointment only.
Complete the physical exam at least 90 days before it is needed.
Lab work and physician's exam should be completed on the same visit.

If a dental exam is required it will be completed during this process.
If you wear glasses or contact lenses and have not had an eye exam in the last 24 months, schedule and appointment with the optometrist prior to your physical exam date if possible. To schedule an eye exam appointment contact the appointment desk at (860) 444-8402.
If you are a female, a PAP is required and should be completed prior to the physical exam. Additionally, if you are 40 years of age or above you may require a mammogram. A referral for a mammography and/or PAP can be completed by scheduling an appointment with your Primary Care Manager; please call the appointment desk at (860) 444-8402 prior to schedule this appointment.
If your Medical Records are not maintained at HSWL FO New London please ensure that you bring your medical and dental records to your appointment with you.
