(formally Seminar for New Managers)
The Management Development I, conducted by the Office of Personnel Management's Management Development Center, provides new managers the opportunity to learn and hone the essential skills necessary for successful transition into entry level management. It is also appropriate for more experienced managers who have not yet had the opportunity for formal development of these skills. The program strengthens the employee's competencies in the areas of continual learning, resilience, service motivation, conflict management, cultural awareness, customer service, problem solving, technical credibility, human resources management, interpersonal skills, and written communication.
The training requires participants to be away from their position for 2 weeks.
New managers at the GS 12-14, WS 14-18, WL 15, O4, and O5 levels who are making the transition from supervisory to managerial responsibilities.

Costs are paid by Coast Guard Headquarters (AFC 56 "C" school account).
Selected individuals will be notified by record message traffic of their selection. Alternates will be selected and will attend the program in the event a primary candidate cannot attend.
