ESU Kodiak - ESU Kodiak had a rare opportunity to spend a little time and share some fresh Salmon with Gary Sinise and the Lt Dan Band who visited Kodiak on the 17th as part of the USO tour through Alaska sponsored by TriWest Healthcare Alliance. Gary and company crashed a unit moral event at the Buskin Beach House following a Silver Salmon Derby and were invited to join some of the crew reaping the benefits of the local area (Fresh Alaskan Silver Salmon no more than an hour out of the water). Also touring with the band was MAJ (USA Ret) Drew Dennis Dix (Medal of Honor Recipient) who received the Medal of Honor for his actions in the Vietnam War and the first enlisted Special Forces soldier to receive the medal. This was a unique opportunity for all active duty and retired in Kodiak to meet this group and hear some great music in a patriotic setting that makes us all proud to say "we voluntarily serve this great nation"! What an honor!
Fawn Rescue Project - ET1 Rob Pester & ET1 William Casey lead a group of 22 ET A school students in the construction of an emergency holding pen for sick, injured or abandoned fawns. The enclosure provides a safe haven for them to rehabilitate and not worry about predators. The volunteers put in over 133 man hours and saved the National Fawn Rescue thousands of dollars in labor cost. Special thanks to LCDR Sandahl for suggesting the project. I would also give you a personal thanks for your time and effort put into the project. You definitely put the Coast Guard in a positive light. BZ

Wildlife Rescue of Sonoma County - ET1 William Casey
Please click here to read a letter address to Captain Marvin detailing the efforts ET1 Casey put into various projects for the Wildlife Rescue of Sonoma County. Great Job, keep up the great work in the community.
Vander Putten Family Scholarship - ET1 Joshua Price
Congratulations. He recently received the grant. It looks to be a very good program especially if you are continuing your education on a limited budget while on active duty in the Coast Guard. Here is a link to the ALCOAST which will provide you information on how to apply. Here is ET1's winning letter.
