Commander Joseph Malinauskas
Commander Joseph Malinauskas, originally from Arbutus, Maryland, is a 1992 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Government.
Upon graduation, he was assigned as a Deck Watch Officer aboard USCGC NORTHLAND (WMEC 904). Additional afloat tours have included Operations Officer aboard USCGC TAMPA (WMEC 902), and Commanding Officer of USCGC JEFFERSON ISLAND (WPB 1340), earning him the Permanent Cutterman insignia.
Ashore assignments have included tours as a navigation instructor at the Coast Guard Command & Control Engineering Center, Flag Aide to the Atlantic Area Commander, and U.S. Coast Guard Fellow for the Office of Congressional Affairs where he was assigned to the U.S. Senate Fisheries & Coast Guard Subcommittee. Most recently, Commander Malinauskas was the Chief of Response for Sector Lake Michigan, where he oversaw law enforcement and search and rescue operations for all of Lake Michigan.
Commander Malinauskas is also a graduate of Troy State University, where he earned a Masters of Public Administration. Additionally, Commander Malinauskas is a graduate of the U.S. Marine Corps Command & Staff College, where he earned a Masters of Military Strategy.
Commander Malinauskas’ personal awards include the Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medal, four Coast Guard Commendation Medals, the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, and the 911 Medal.
