To better resolve complaints at the lowest level, all Coast Guard employees are trained in legislation and procedures dealing with civil rights. Increased awareness can resolve disputes before they become formal complaints.

General Training for Coast Guard Employees

Mandatory training for Coast Guard Employees includes Notification and Federal Employee Antidiscrimination and Retaliation (No FEAR) Act, Sexual Harassment Prevention, and Human Relations Awareness training.  All required training is hosted on the Learning Portal.

Specialty Training for Civil Rights Service Providers

Civil Rights Service Provider training is provided in support of the Coast Guard Equal Opportunity Program.  Quotas to attend training courses must be requested from the Civil Rights Directorate via the servicing Civil Rights Service Provider's chain of command. More

Training for Supervisors and Managers

It is Coast Guard policy to resolve complaints at the lowest level.  Solving complaints at the lowest level begins with the immediate supervisor having awareness of the complaint process, including mediation, and is essential to preventing formal complaints and timely resolution when they arise. More
