UNIT INFORMATION SHEET

To Review a Unit Information Sheet, click here: Geographical Map of Units

*** All units with 1st tour non-rates are required to update their UIS once a year,
Anytime the point of Contact changes, the UIS should be updated to indicate the change..

*** All other Units are optional ,
with the exception of Port Security Units****

Any Unit that operates on a
Port/Starboard schedule should have either a separate UIS or include the information about each crew on the UIS.

To find out more information please visit the: Relocation Managers page.

WE DO NOT UPDATE Unit Information Sheets. We REPLACE the current one with the one that is sent to us by each unit. UIS sheets need to be updated once a year to keep the information as current as possible.

To Update your unit's Unit Information Sheet follow these steps:

1. Click on the
Geographical Location. in which your unit is located.

2. Find your unit and double click on the link. This brings up your UIS Sheet.

3. You can make changes to the file, but
AREN'T ALLOWED TO SAVE IT TO THE SERVER. When finished save the file to your Local  drive (See # 4  on how to save the file) and email it to David.R. Wessel @uscg.mil.  Once I have received the file, I REPLACE the old one with the new one. I will send an email to whoever sent it letting them know it has been updated. They should go to the website after about 2 hrs and review it to insure it updated. Notify me if it hasn't.

Make any changes and/or additions necessary (i.e. Pictures , Links, Area Information, etc).
Include a (Current Date) and Home of Record (Geographical Location) in Red, at the top.

Example:
Updated: 05 March, 2009  Location -  Northeast Atlantic

!!!! This indicates when it was last updated and where it is home ported. It allows me to know what Geographical location page to update.

*** Just a reminder ***, To reduce the size of pictures do the following:
Right click on the picture. Choose Format. Choose Compress. Choose Web/Screen and All Pictures. Save the file.

This allows the UIS to open quicker as well as being able to be emailed.

4. When finished making changes, click on File, Save As, then Save. The name of the file is inserted automatically so you do not have to name it. Remember where the file is being saved because this is the file that you will attach when you email it to me. The name of the saved file will be the same as the one that opens when you click on the link.  Step #5 explains where to email the updated UIS to.

5. Send the updated UIS to David.R. Wessel @uscg.mil. Attach the saved document (from step #4). If it is a new UIS or relocates to a new Geographical location please indicate this in the Subject Line.  This helps me to remove it from that district so there are not UIS's in 2 locations. If a unit changes  from one type of unit to another ( MSO to a MSU), indicate this so I can delete the old file which is no longer valid.

6. If your unit is not listed, use the Template (as a guideline of information that is needed but other information that makes it more informative is welcomed) that is provided below. Once the UIS has been created, follow steps 4 & 5 for saving the data and sending it to me. Your unit will be updated as soon as I receive it. If you create a new one save it such as CGC Healy or AirSta Cape Cod. It will be saved as a .doc file. Then email the new file back to the place in step #5. In the subject line please indicate that this is a new UIS.

To see an example of the Welcome Aboard Message that is sent to incoming personnel at the Cape May Training Center  click on the Welcome Aboard Message link. Each Unit drafts a message tailored for their commands needs and requirements, then is posted in CGMS.

* The UIS is sent to the website the day I receive them, therefore the future departing recruits will receive the updated UIS once the library custodian receives and processes the document.
