USMAP helps active duty servicemembers earn certification for skills learned through documented training and work experience (on-the-job training) and related technical instruction.
Once you've enrolled in USMAP you document work experience you accomplish while performing your regular military duties. The USMAP work is performed at the same time as your military duties and is not a program to be worked after hours.
After you've completed the program and left the Coast Guard, you will qualify for employment in recognized civilian trades at the journeyman level. Involvement in this apprenticeship program also helps you advance in your Coast Guard career.
Currently there are 125 USMAP apprenticeable trades available to members enlisted in the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.
